Sunday Sermon 9/1/13

In the Williamstown church, big and modern with the altar in the center and huge organ pipes. An older congregation with an ancient, infirm priest. An unusual statue of the Virgin best described as winsome.

The readings sound like social advice, The Sirac readings are  particularly good (do not test beyond your strength) but, as always are more. Christ on humility is especially riveting as he urges people not to take high places in dinner then, laughing perhaps, says on should always entertain those who are too poor to return the favor.

Humility is Christ's concern today. Humility is not weakness as it is usually portrayed in culture, it is seeing life in the context of a larger whole.

That is too much for the vision for a Tamerlane.
