Wars on Science

Tierney, the old NYT guy, had an interesting take on the impact of politics on science in a recent interview with Stossel.

"People talk about this Republican war on science, but if you look around, my question is, where are the casualties? What scientists lost their jobs?" asks Tierney. "I can't find examples where the right wing stopped the progress of science, whereas you can look on the left and you see so many areas that are taboo to research."

He gives examples like creationism and stem cell research which, while opposed by some "conservatives," have had no practical impact on the science of either. But IQ research, gender research, GMO research and DDT research have been stopped cold by the Left.
