Sunday Gospel 3/8/15

In today's gospel, Christ drives the moneychangers from the temple. And, when challenged, He immediately personifies it.
“Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”
The Jews said,
“This temple has been under construction for forty-six years,
and you will raise it up in three days?”
But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
Therefore, when he was raised from the dead,
his disciples remembered that he had said this..."

And why the symbolism?

"But Jesus would not trust himself to them because he knew them all,
and did not need anyone to testify about human nature.
He himself understood it well."

And what did the apostles think? They recalled the Old Testament quote of Davis in Psalm 69 when David talks about how hard he struggled to know God: "Zeal for your house will consume me, (and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.)"
All this personification made sense to them.
And, they thought He was destroying Himself.
