These dreadful investigations are important to the democracy: They give the government the opportunity to appear high-minded. This Sessions thing complicates matters because, until recently, he was a member of the congress, the high-minded deliberating body. They must be careful not to undermine their high-mindedness.

In all the posturing, though, there is very little that is clear because so much of it is innuendo and McCarthyism. ("Can you prove to us that it did not happen?)

Interestingly, just about the only thing that was not leaked during this opera was that Trump was not under investigation regarding the Russian disinformation program. The next obvious political step will be to investigate possible obstruction of  the investigation of the collusion that has been shown not to have happened.
