Free trade is simply a technique for producing more output using fewer inputs – that is, producing goods and services more efficiently. Guarding the source of production turns free economy on its head and gives value to the Marxian production side rather than the Smithian consumption side. Reverence for inefficient production is what kills managed economies because the consumer will always chose the more efficient producer. The socialist/communist knows this so they must exert more control over the system to manage consumption too. There is no such thing as "a lot of control" in centralized government.

A fire broke out on a secretive Russian research submarine on Monday, killing 14 people and potentially slowing Russia’s efforts to develop new undersea weaponry. Flames roared through the nuclear-powered Project 1083 Losharik submarine apparently while the vessel was near its home port of Severomorsk on Russia’s Arctic coast. Among the crew who died in the accident are at least seven senior officers, two of whom had received the Hero of Russia award, the equivalent of the United States’ Medal of Honor.  

For a number of years, the International Socialists Organization, once the largest Marxist group in the USA. "Socialist Worker" was the newspaper of the now defunct ISO. Why defunct? The cover-up of multiple rapes in the ISO led to its dissolution this year.
